They’ve kept the name of the best-selling women’s ski of all time, but redesigned the ski from the ground up. The Blizzard Black Pearl 88 Skis feature a new W.S.D. (Women Specific Design) Trueblend Flipcore Core of Beech and Poplar woods, and a freshly shaped top laminate of Titanal that’s separated into two pieces instead of a single sheet. Bottom line, though, is the best selling women’s ski of all time is as good as ever and accessible to an even wider audience than before.

Rocker Type

Rocker Camber Rocker– Ski profile with rocker at the tip and tail, camber in the middle. Reducing the pressure on the edge at the tip and tail makes the ski even easier to handle and increases flotation on powder snow. The camber guarantees great grip on packed snow.

Core

TrueBlend W.S.D. All Mountain Core– TrueBlend core of Beech with seven stringers of Poplar, tailor-made for each length of ski, using lighter Women’s Specific Design woods.

Laminates

Two-Piece W.S.D. Titanal Laminate for Grip and Stability– No longer a single sheet of Titanal, the 2025 Black Pearl uses a two-piece laminate with a sheet of fiberglass in between the layers. The upper layer of metal resembles the shape of the FluxForm Titanal layer in the Sheeva skis and the lower layer fills in the gap in the center.

Sandwich Compound Sidewall– All Blizzard skis with the exception of some junior skis are built with ABS or Phenol sidewalls for superior performance (stability, power transmission, handling) and durability.

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Terrain: Carving, All-Mountain CarvingFor those that like the classic feeling of laying a ski over on edge and arcing a perfect turn, carving skis are what you want. These skis have narrower waists and shorter turn radii for edge to edge quickness and responsive turn initiation and exit on groomed runs and hard pack. The beginner-intermediate skis in this category are designed to make learning how to turn as easy as going from pizza to French fries. All-MountainAll-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.

Intermediate to advanced skis and snowboards may be somewhat wider or stiffer than beginner-intermediate skis and snowboards, usually with a stronger wood core and sandwich sidewall construction. Intermediate to advanced boots and bindings range from softer flexing freestyle options to stiffer choices built for stability at speed.

Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber/Rocker Rocker/Camber/RockerRocker/Camber/Rocker skis have the playfulness and float of a rockered ski as well as the added edge hold of a cambered ski. The contact points on skis with this profile are closer towards the middle of the ski than a fully cambered ski, but still not underfoot. The cambered midsection provides a longer effective edge on hardpack, increasing edge hold and stability, while the rockered tip and tail provide floatation in deeper snow and allow the ski to initiate and release from turns easier.

Turning Radius: Short Short< 16 m radius is best for carving.

Tail Type: Partial Twin Tip Partial Twin TipPartial twin tip skis have a tail that is turned up, but not as much as the tip. This gives you the ability to ski backwards and back out of tight spaces, but these skis are mainly designed to ski forward.
